Wanaka Day 1
We said goodbye to the gorgeous Wild Earth Lodge and had a short but beautiful drive south to Wanaka.

The road goes down the east of Lake Wanaka then over to Lake Hawea which is 410m deep and apparently freezing cold.
Fortunately we were allowed into our apartment early so we could have the whole afternoon to play with.
Hubby declined my offer of a climb up Mt Iron and trotted off to find supermarkets - it makes him happy!

I then walked back into Wanaka, a laid-back little town with lots of bustling bars and restaurants. The lake was a hive of activity with kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, swimming humans and dogs. I walked along the western shore of the lake, past ‘The’ Wanaka tree which apparently has to have its photograph taken to appear on social media - why does everyone have to have the same photo?! Obviously I had to take a photo of a different tree..
And a vineyard..
I walked as far as Waterfall Creek then realised my feet were getting hangry.

Happy hubby bought me a raspberry and white chocolate muffin and I managed to separately buy exactly the same on the my wander back through town - a muffin for each tired foot!

The balcony has a pretty great view.
